California Quails are everywhere in the Okanagan Valley. After the young are hatched they group together to form crèches, often with chicks of different ages. The parents watch over the brood and ferry them from place to place with a lone male, perched high, watching for dangers. This painting is showing the anxious parents watching over their brood and wondering where the last straggler got to. My husband Fred is often brought in for help naming the paintings. He immediately suggested we call it “Where’s Fred?”
