Kobuk River, Alaska

My fellow crew member, Stephen Gorman, a very talented wildlife photographer and friend, sent me these pics of a canoe trip I did last summer, 150 miles down the Kobuk River in Alaska. A crew of 5 set off after being dropped off by 2 float planes, on a lake that would take us to the Kobuk, to eventually come out at Kotzebue on the Chukchi Sea. It was cold and wet most of the time but spectacularly beautiful. We saw 21 grizzly bears and a black wolf. The wolves were very shy but we heard them howling at night. They sounded very close to our camp and the sound of them was amazing. Although we were paddling for full days, my fellow artist Rob Mullen and I did manage to do some field sketches and Steve Gorman took some amazing photographs.
